Last Saturday, police in Schererville, IN pulled over a woman for speeding and discovered she was intoxicated. Sad, but common. Even more sad, she had her one year old son with her. More sad, and still common. Everything that happened after that, not so common.

Police say the father showed up to take the kid home. He was drunk, so they arrested him. A little later, the grandparents show up. They had been drinking too. Since the grandmother wasn’t over the legal limit, they didn’t arrest her, but police escorted them home.

At some point, you have to ask yourself if this kid should be rescued from this family altogether. Maybe this is a case where putting this kid in foster care is being merciful.
