2 Flamingo Funerals: Rice and FSU

17 June 2008 No Comment

Rice and Florida State were the first teams to have their Flamingos buried in Omaha. Both lost their first two games

There have been several surprises thus far. Miami and FSU losing on day one caught many by surprise. Then underdog Fresno State took down the Owls.  Miami vs FSU provided some great drama, including the country’s best closer, Carlos Gutierrez facing the nation’s best hitter, Buster Posey with the game on the line. Posey drew the walk, with 2 runners on, but Gutierrez managed to get out of the jam.

As I’m writing, Fresno State is trailing North Carolina 3-2.  FYI- A great way to follow the game online is to listen to 1620 The Zone’s streaming broadcast and view the CSTV GameTracker. If you’re not familiar with GameTracker, give it a look. The player animations are pretty funny and the in-game info is like sitting in the press box. Okay, that’s probably an overstatement. Nothing is like sitting in the press box at Rosenblatt.

Stay tuned for more CWS updates.

Carry on, Citizens!
