Vonage is Freaking Me Out

27 March 2008 No Comment

This banner ad was waiting for me the other day when I opened Yahoo Mail:

Doppleganger

Okay, am I being paranoid, or does the guy in the ad look eerily similar to me? This really creeped me out. It goes beyond dropping a cookie to track your internet patterns and then target ads to you. When the person behind the internet (Al Gore) can start dropping you into the actual ads, it’s time to frightened. The least he could have done was put a supermodel next to me, so it looked like I was having fun while espousing the virtues of internet phone service (Which, for the record, I hate. We have a Vonage competitor’s service at the office and I have to reset it at least once a week. Pure rubbish.)

If you’ve seen yourself in an add, let me know.

Carry on, Citizens!
